A Question

The Month of Thanks

All small business owners start with a dream, an idea. We start with eyes wide open and hope that our intuition (and experience, research, and spreadsheets) were right. By opening a brick-and-mortar, we are asking the community a question- both literal and philosophical. What do we value?

The answer to that question comes as I hold each piece out of the kiln, check the bottom to see which potter crafted it and then usually, fill my heart a bit more with the lovely skill this maker has developed. In just two years time, in many cases less, our community of potters has shifted from beginners with sincere efforts to quality potters with genuine skill. The writers in our community are publishing work, the painters are participating in shows. Everyone is on a path, perhaps with no clear destination, and it is glorious to be a spectator and fan. It is magnificent to hear the response.

The gratitude I hold for these artists, this community, that takes risks each and every week as they develop their craft is unquantifiable.

We put the question out there in February 2020, when we first opened, and through a pandemic received a crystal clear answer: this community values art, creativity, and coming together. We value a true creative community.

This year, and every post-pandemic year, I remain grateful for the answer to the call we put out, for you, our community, showing up time and time again to make art with us. It’s about the doing, the making, the moving forward- together.

Roslindale, thank you for moving forward with us and becoming part of the community at Create.
