Every 28 Days (2024)
white porcelain clay, black mason stain, celadon glaze, stainless steel wire
Every 28 Days depicts each phase of a sidereal lunar month, one full orbit of the moon as defined by its position amongst the stars. Each piece is individually cut from a rolled slab of hand-colored porcelain clay then fired, glazed, and fired again before assembly.
Artist Bio
Tina Cincotti is nonprofit consultant and accidental artist in Boston, Massachusetts. Her ceramics journey started right here in Roslindale during the first winter of the pandemic. She went into her initial class enamored with the wheel. Sadly, the wheel didn’t love her back. But along the way, she fell in love with hand-building and the freedom that comes from being able to turn clay into so many different shapes…shapes you can never get on the wheel. You’ll find her at local markets and open studios as Crafty Crab Ceramics.
Artist Statement
I aspire to make things that are different from what’s traditionally thought of as ceramics and pottery. Instead of mugs and jars, you’ll find what I call “house jewelry” which include chimes, decorative hangings, wallflowers, and other unique pieces for your home. Because I am a lover of both precision and organic shapes, movement and calm, nature and geometry, you’ll find all these concepts reflected in my designs. I primarily work with stoneware and porcelain clay, including colored clay made by mixing mason stain by hand in small batches. The majority of my pieces start as slabs of rolled clay before being cut, slumped, molded, or otherwise shaped into different forms.
